Violence against Children from a Historical Perspective« This anthology addresses the phenomenon of violence against children in its historical roots and manifestations since antiquity. The 15 contributions provided by German, Swiss and American authors discuss questions of social practice, strategies of legitimation and interpretative models as well as historical concepts for preventing this kind of violence. They make clear that the history of violence against children can neither be convincingly interpreted as a »natural« inter-generational pattern of behaviour nor as a success story of modern child protection.
