»Legal Frontiers for the Reform of the Law on Alternative Practitioners« In addition to licensed doctors, around 47.000 alternative practitioners make an important contribution to public health care in Germany. Nevertheless, members of health professions without a medical license are sometimes mistrusted, which is mainly based on the prejudice of insufficient professional competence. The diverse range of treatments offered by alternative practitioners ensures care that could not be guaranteed by licensed doctors alone. Despite the very widespread and intensive activities of alternative practitioners, there are relatively few regulations that essentially continue to apply as pre-constitutional law. In the coalition agreement of 12th March 2018 concluded between the CDU, CSU and SPD for the 19th legislative period of the German Bundestag, it says: »In order to increase patient safety, we want to review the range of treatment by alternative practitioners.« The present publication aims to contribute to this examination.
