Der Untersuchungsschwerpunkt liegt auf den knapp drei Jahrzehnten der Weimarer Republik sowie der NS-Diktatur. Doch werden auch die Anfänge der Inneren Mission im Oldenburger Land seit dem Jahr 1882 berücksichtigt. Im Blick der detailreichen Untersuchungen sind sowohl der Landesverein insgesamt als auch die einzelnen Einrichtungen in dessen Trägerschaft - u. a. ein Fürsorgeerziehungsheim.
