Menschsein und Religion

A critical scrutiny and constructive contribution towards the shaping of Christian practice cannot take place without a coherent anthropology, i.e. a definition of humanity that is compatible with the human sciences. Such a definition should not simply be broken down to conform to the doctrine of salvation and challenge the principle of merit. A Christian understanding of humanity also means recognizing the individual subject, which permits the formation of individual opinions and decisions and volition. Without such instruments for the art of living people are unable to commit themselves to life with dedication and passion. The Christian doctrine is a religious practice that lets people be people, as the contributions to this volume illustrate.
