The common form may, hy reason of various phonetic laws, have been changed into quite different forms, but the common origin is always assumed. But unfortunately we can not always be sure of our common form. In the first place we must be certain of the assumed phonetic laws. To discover these laws we must assume relation ship between various sets of words. Thus we work in a circle.
