And so it happens frequently, that they make their present the staging point to envision, expect and hope for their predictions of the future. These visions then reflect anticipation or fear onto their present. Will things improve? Or will even the direst of forecasts be yet exceeded?This essay deals with these predictions of the future in their great plurality, be they utopias, apocalypses or teleologies. The manifold repercussions of these visions and expectations on the present are discussed. Subsequently, the theological possibilities of a Christian understanding as well as Christian answers to the questions at hand will be addressed. It remains to be seen whether this question about the future of being human must elicit a fearful response, or rather a more cheerful one. Considering that for the faithful the future is the place from which in particular God may approach us full of promise.
