The author analyzes how the European Union (EU) can influence the protection of media pluralism in its member states. There is, however a tradeoff between the EU's need to regulate the media pluralism, and the sovereignty of each of the member states, which can limit EU's reach regarding regulative protection measures. Nevertheless, the perspective of the supervision of values opens possibilities how the European Union can develop and apply its influence in this regard. The book presents and discusses this trade-off and these possibilities.
