Nachdem er etwa 6 Jahre in Philadelphia prakticirt hatte, trat er 1 862 in die Armee der Vereinigten Staaten als Militärarzt ein und diente als solcher bis 1867. In genanntem Jahre wurde er Prof. Der klin. Chirurgie an der georgetown-universität, 1868 Prof. Der Chir. Und Decan der med. Facultät an der Howard Universität, 1875 wiederum an die georgetown-universität als Prof. Der mikroskop. Anatomie versetzt und 1876 Prof. Der Anat. Und Deoan der med. Facultät an derselben Anstalt. Er schrieb: "four cases of aneurism treated bg ligation (am. Journ. Of the Med. So., 1868) "reductzon of dislocation of the fourth cervical vertebra (ib. 1871) "re marlcs on disease among the freed people of the United States (ib. 1866) und zahlreiche andere Artikel in dem genannten Journal, sowie im National Med.
