Ulrich Rückriem's "Multiples" are independent works that illustrate the artistic working process to the viewer in a particularly intimate and vivid way. They have accompanied Rückriem's sculptural work since 1969 and exemplify the artist's working method and his understanding of what sculpture is through his artistic development. As well as three-dimensional objects, the "Multiples" also include print portfolios. Detached from the haptic character of sculptures, these represent spatial perceptions and thus the fundamental problem of a sculptor: how are volumes and space to be designed according to an artistic system.
